The first phase of Bengbu First People's Hospital (medical and technical inpatient complex, logistics complex) is under rapid and orderly construction (designed from October 2010 to February 2017, construction started in July 2019 and planned to be completed in 2023.7).

Bengbu First People's Hospital is located in Yuhui District, Bengbu. It was founded in 1949 with two branches, west and east, and was the first municipal-level general hospital to be established in city. This project is newly built after demolished in the east branch. The site is adjacent to Hongqi 2nd Road in the north, Tushan Road in the south, and Weisi Road between the east and west branch.

The land area is 25,483 m2 and the planned GFA is 122,582 m2, of which 88,650 m2are above ground and the plot ratio is 3.5. The planned total beds are 825. The 23-story main building of the Medical Technology Hospital is 100 meters high. The podium has 5-6 floors, including outpatient, emergency and logistics services. The basement has two floors of 33,932 square meters.

The construction goal is to improve the two major functions of Bengbu City’s public health and basic medical care, improve service capabilities, meet the medical needs of the masses, integrate health resources, improve operational efficiency and the people’s medical and health care standards to reach the standards of tertiary first-class hospitals.

Overall Layout Characteristics

The project is demolition and construction on the original site, so it's quite tension in land area. In order to ensure the continuous operation of the hospital, our company has fully prepared a phased planning and construction plan. Adopting the concept of overall planning, phased demolition, and phased construction, according to the needs of the hospital, the construction plan for the three buildings of the outpatient department, the technical inpatient complex and the logistics complex is planned. In the first phase, the construction of the technical hospitalization complex and the logistics complex will be started. After the normal operation of the hospital is ensured, other buildings in the site will be demolished and the outpatient and emergency building will be constructed in the second phase.

Difficulties in the design of this project: tension in land area, high FAR requirements and large number of beds required. The vertical layout is adopted in the two major functional areas of hospitalization and medical technology. The inpatient tribe is above the medical technology department, which increases the overall building height, saves land spaces and assists with efficient elevator groups to improve operation efficiency. The outpatient and emergency building is arranged on the south side in a multi-storey form to ensure sufficient sunshine hours in the inpatient ward. At the same time, the outpatient building is located at the east end, leaving an entrance plaza, which echoes the entrance of the west hospital area. In the case of high FAR requirements, there will be traffic pressure and people pressure inside the hospital site after it is put into use. We reasonably plan to disperse the installation of various entrances and exits. The whole hospital uses municipal roads as far as possible to separate entrances and exits to avoid congestion of vehicles in and out of the hospital.

"Pearl" Hospital in Northern Anhui: The Pearl on the Huaihe River

The hospital has an ArtDeco architectural style, it can be seen the building is tall and straight, shaping the seriousness and rigor of the hospital. In the sun room and outpatient hall on the west side of the ward area, a transparent cylindrical glass curtain wall runs through to the roof, like a crystal-clear "pearl", hanging high on the tower of the hospital. The color of the exterior facade is off-white stone, which contrasts with the glass curtain wall to set off the warmth of the "Pearl". It implies that the medical and nursing sages of the First People's Hospital of Bengbu are benevolent and charitable, treating every patient with sincerity and the luster that radiates throughout the northern Anhui region.
